ARLENE ALLRED - 1933~2010

Vista Farms celebrated it's 25th anniversary in 2009

The barn was built by Keith Allred and sons, Steve, Bob, Chris and Alan of Allred and Sons Construction. In fact, the Allred's built many of the barns around the valley at that time; some are still active, like Windy Acres of Billie and John Hessletine, and what is now Michele Palmers barn at Corner Canyon Stables in Draper.

We don't see Keith and Arlene Allred out and about the barn much anymore, but they are still tucked away comfortably in their quaint little brick house as you enter the driveway at Vista Farms.

For those of you that have never met Keith and Arlene, in 1984, they designed and built what was then a "State of the Art" facility: Vista Farms. It was planned and built as a private breeding and training facility for some of the finest Arabian horses in the state. The Allred's were also very active members of the Utah Arabian Horse Club for several decades.

Arlene used to be the one to sit at the desk and keep track of everything from the books to the boarders. The office was always spotless, and nothing went un-noticed. Arlene always had fun and interesting stories to tell about the horses and their many years in the business. She foaled literally hundreds of mares over the years, and Keith and the boys kept up the place. They had many well known stallions that stood at Vista Farms like Gask, Bey Saturn, and Sher Kahn...just to name a few. They bred, raised and showed many champion horses.

When, in 1986, the tax laws changed, it had a big effect on the lives of most horse breeders forever. Many barns across America ended up selling out of their own stock and going public, as did Vista Farms. In 1990, Wendy Jewell-Onstott had returned to Utah after many years of training and showing horses in other states, and came to work out of Vista Farms. Wendy's family and the Allred's had known each other since the early 1970's.

Keith and Arlene ran it as a public facility until about 1999, when they retired from the horse business. At that time, Steve and Janice Allred took it over. They have allowed us to keep running Vista Farms as not just a business, but an entity in itself...an era. It has a heart...and a soul. It is family.

There is a wonderful history behind Vista Farms, and we welcome you all any day, any time. We look forward to more great years ahead!!!

Arlene Mae Leidholdt Allred, "A Great Women and a Perfect Partner" - passed away February 2nd, at the age of 77, with her husband by her side and her family gathered around.

Arlene was born on January 3, 1933 in Long Beach, California and married the love of her life Keith J. Allred on July 3, 1950. Together for the last 60 years they have worked together, played together and experienced life together.

Arlene had a great sense of humor and a strong love for her children and grandchildren. Even during her battle with cancer her main concern remained their wellbeing and happiness. She adored and loved the outdoors, her horses and the many animals she nurtured and cared for throughout her life.

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend leaves behind her beloved husband Keith J. Allred, her dog Brandi, her children: Linda and Fred Jones; Alan and Delynn; Bob and Cindy; Steve and Janice; Chris and Shirley Allred; 29 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and many good friends who are considered family. Arlene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010, 12:00 noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.) Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com

All of the Trainers and boarders offer our deepest sympathy to the Allred family.  Arlene was a great lady and we know that there wouldn't have been a Vista Farms without Arlene and Keith and all of their hard work and dedication to Vista and the Arabian breed.

What makes Vista Farms so unique?

Most of all, you will notice the attitude.

Since 1984, Vista Farms has been unique in it's friendly people, family atmosphere and the warm comradery and support you will find here.

You will never need an appointment to come by and visit with the owners, Steve & Janice Allred and John & Dee Brumback.

Come meet our full-time trainer/instructor since 1990, Wendy Jewell-Onstott. With over 40 years of experience, she is not only a top notch trainer, but an excellent communicator in general. You can find our trainers resumes and bios on the "trainer"  page of this website.  Our trainers are here to take you from the most beginning levels of horsemanship to your choice of competitive levels, if you so wish.

At Vista Farms, we have a wide variety of horse lovers and owners of all ages--from the beginners just learning about horses in general to riders competing on a National Level.  And not just kids! We have many adult programs too! All ages, all breeds, and just about all disciplines.

Vista Farms, and the Trainers here, pride ourselves on helping new and enthusiastic horse lovers to learn and achieve goals with their horse dreams.  People come here from all over, including out of state.

We take great care to provide you with what you need as an individual, and we get many requests from other Trainers to "send us some of your people."  This gives us great pride....it is like watching your very own kids grow up and become the best that they can be.

The large majority of our "kids" that have grown up here at Vista Farms have gone on to be excellent horse trainers, instructors, owners and breeders in their own right.

Not to mention quality human beings.
