2008 - Team Sha-Wen Equine Summer Apprenticeship Program
Thanks for another great year!
This program is designed to educate people who are interested in horses with hands-on experience---to let that special dream come true, without the expense of buying a horse! At the same time, our plan is to help people understand the responsibility and expense that go along with the enjoyment of owning a horse.
This is a very helpful deciding factor for those families thinking about owning a horse. This program is a 1 week course running Monday through Friday from 9am - 1pm. Students will need to bring their own lunch. There is also a day rate for those who need a shorter schedule. Classes are limited, so don't wait to sign up!
Dates are:
Done for 2008! See you in 2009!
Course Format:
Learn to catch, halter, groom and tack up the horses.
Learn to clean the horse's stall, how different feeds work and general stable and horsemanship knowledge.
Learn to ride safely and in control.
Each student will be able to control the horse through different maneuvers. Besides riding, they will learn to work the horses on the longe line, care for the horse's legs and bathe them.
Graduation certificates will be given out at the end of the course in a Graduation Ceremony.
Graduating apprentices may have opportunities to help with this program at future dates at a discounted rate.
Conditions--Students will need the following:
1. Wear shoes or boots with a heel and long pants.
This is for safety reasons! You can get some of the best buys on boots at Ream's (just east of Vista on 90th S. & 2700 W.) or any comfortable low ankle height boot with a low heel from any department store will do. No tennis shoes, please! No shorts, please!
2. Riding helmet.
If you would like to purchase a helmet, there are two "horse stores" near Vista Farms. AA Callisters is on Redwood Road just south of the Harmons on 10400 south in South Jordan. Saddle Up is on Redwood Road and 111400 South in Riverton.
If you need to buy a riding helmet, there are excellent schooling helmets on the market in the $30 - $40 range. Get the ones with the cooling vents in them...not the fancy velvet show helmets. (They're too hot.)
3. A signed Release of Liability.
4. A sack lunch everyday and a drink.
2008 Price List:

1/2 down in advance - Non-refundable scheduling fee.
Balance due on the 1st day of class.
** Day Rate...............................................................$50.00
