Vista goes to Arabian and 1/2 Arabian Youth Nationals!!!

July 22-31:    Youth Nationals in Albuquerque:    Good Luck to Our Team Sha-Wen competitors:  Stacy, (Handsome and Ace)  Lizzy (Remy and Simba),  Shelby (Light of Glory), Paige (Vandal),  Shahar (Hoochee),  Matt (Cisco),  Kat (Superman).  Except for Stacy, this will be the first time for all of the kids.

         Official Youth Nationals website

Just a note to the novice horse show folk....  classes were divided by discipline (western, hunter, equitation, etc) and then into full Arabian and 1/2 Arabian.  Then, they divided those by age and then further divided them into JTR (junior to ride, they could be riding anyone's horse) and JOTR (junior owner to ride, you have to actually own the horse).   There were then 3 Judges in the ring.  They would generally take 1/2 of the horses to the next round, so if the class had 20 horses in it, they would take the top 10.  The judges don't always agree and they also see different mistakes, so if they are taking the top 10 horses, they pick 12 and the top 10 scores go on.  So, this is why you can make 1 or 2 judges cards, but still not move on to the next round.  Making a judge's card means that out of a class of say 20, YOU were noticed, which, considering the competition is a great feat!

Well, we all survived.  Horses and kids and trainers are all home safe and sound.

The weather was, for the most part, good.  Nice and cool....only in the 70's and 80's.  Rain showers and humid almost everyday.  A couple of days it got a bit muddy, but it could have been worse.

Happy Birthdays go out to Stacy, Lizzy and Wendy, who all had birthdays while we were at Youth Nationals!

We had 3 kids/horses make it to the second round:

Stacy on Handsome (MV Jasiim, PB Arabian) in Western Horsemanship 14-17.  They made it to the finals, but didn't top 10, but made 2 Judge's cards!  Excellent rides, Stacy!!!!  Sadly, this was Stacy's last year for Youth, as she turned 18 the day we left for Nationals!  She also had excellent rides on Ace (Beacon Hill) in Trail, Hunter and Equitation.  Boy, that 14-17 group is tough competition!

Shelby on Light of Glory in Arabian Hunter JTR 14-17.  They made it to the next round, but didn't go on.  Way to go!  Not bad for your 1st Nationals!  Shelby and Light looked great!  And Shelby had only been riding him for a month!  Shelby also did a great job in Hunt Seat Equitation, making 1 Judge's card. Again, all of the competitors were just so good, I have no idea how the Judges managed to pick just a few to go on to the next round.

Paige on TR Vandal in Arabian Hunter JTR 13 and under.  They made it to the next round, but didn't go on.  Way to go!  Not bad for your 1st Nationals!  Vandal looked great in all his bows!  Paige also made 1 Judge's card in Hunter JOTR 13 & under, despite being the victim of a 'hit and run' at the end of the class.  Great job keeping your cool!

Honorable Mentions:

Kat and Soop (Atomic Superman) get honorable mention for making a Judge's card in 1/2 Arabian Hunter JOTR 13 and under!  You have to make at least 2 Judge's cards to go to the next round, but 1 isn't bad at all!!!

Shahar and Hoochie (Chattahoochee DWA) get honorable mention for making 2 Judge's card in Arabian Western Pleasure JOTR 13 and under!  Unfortunately, Hoochie got 9th and they only took the top 8 to the next round.  This is Shahar's 1st year of showing, so way to go!

Lizzy and Remy and Simba.  This was Lizzie's 1st time at a National or even Regional show and it's only her 2nd year of showing!  Their rides were just wonderful!  We're so proud!  Lizzie and Remy (RCH Golden Memory) did make 1 Judge's card in Arabian Hunter JOTR 13 & under!

Matt and Cisco (Mystic Idol):  Matt has only been showing for less than 1 year!  They also had great rides in 1/2 Arab Hunter JTR and JOTR and have a lot to look forward to!

I have to mention here, that these kids and horses and trainers did such a WONDERFUL JOB!!!!!  For most of us, it was a 1st time and maybe a 1 time experience!  We went to have fun and to see how our horses match up and we were not disappointed with any of it.

Vista didn't have the most expensive horses or attire or drapes/set up, but I think we DID HAVE THE MOST AWESOME TEAM OF RIDERS there!  We all supported each other and we were certainly the loudest Region at the Youth Conference!

We all learned a ton.  Learned what we have, what we can do better and what we are already great at!

I can't say enough about all of the kids and horses and how well they rode and acted at Youth!

Much thanks to our Youth Nationals helpers and mentors.... Cactus Rose Ranch.  Especially Carolyn McDonald and Natalie Jones!  Cactus Rose also brought home lots and lots of Top 10s and many Reserve and National Championships!

Congratulations also go out to our Utah Team....girls and friends from the UAHC that made Top 10!

Tiffany Royer & OSO Smokin on winning a RESERVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in addition to their NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!  Western Pleasure JTR and JOTR 14-17.

Congrats to top tens Jessica Barker on RSK Magnums Magic and Laura Smith on GK Alexus!
