Since there are two trainers at Vista named "Kelsey" (the other being Kelcie Beck), so we usually refer to the two "Kelsey's" by their last names.  This is "McKinnon."

Kelsey has been riding horses since she was 9 years old. She came to Vista Farms with her own horse, which she learned to train and show herself in Western, Hunt Seat, Reining and Costume.  She still owns this mare, "Kshari" (Ka-sar'-ee), a brown and white pinto half Arabian mare, and will probably have her throughout her lifetime.

Like a lot of horse trainers, McKinnon has found herself 'collecting' horses.  Besides her 1st horse, Kshari, Kelsey also has her 'show' horse Dancey, a 1/2 Arabian pinto mare that she raised and trained herself from a baby and Pebbles, an older rescue mare.  She also has 2 more horses, not at Vista right now...Willy the palomino and Maggie, Kelsey's new young horse.

Kelsey has shown many horses that she has trained both of her own and for other people successfully in: sport horse, dressage, western, showmanship at halter, hunt seat and show hack classes.

Before long, Kelsey moved into the Junior Trainer program and quickly moved up into her own very respectable clientele.

Kelsey's biggest talent is with young children; she has an uncanny knack to communicate with them, and excels as an instructor for the beginners that come in to learn all aspects of horsemanship.

McKinnon also loves to break and train horses....the more challenging the better!

 

             

Services and Price List
Lessons - 1 hr.	Private = $35 Group  = $25 each (2 or more)
Horse - Full Training      Includes:  Horses schooled 5 days week  1 Private Lesson /wk  Turn Out  Handler's Fee for farrier, vet, medications, etc.  Clipping - as needed	$250 per month (does not include board)
Horse Training by the Ride	$20 per hour
Clipping Touch Up - Bridle Path & Whiskers Only = $15 Full Show Clip = $50 Full Body Clip = $125 Misc. Clipping Problem Area = $25
Show Fees Away and Schooling Shows = $30 /day Out of State Shows = $30 /day (plus pro-rated mileage, food, motel fees, etc. split between owners) Show fees are paid to the trainer to cover missed lessons/work and cannot be waived. It starts the day your horse in unloaded at the show grounds, and ends when your horse leaves the show grounds.  Please note that the $30 a day is the same fee as an hour private lesson, which you will find you get a lot more than that per day at a show.  Help with grooming, braiding, hooves, coaching and a group lesson a day are all included.
Hauling $30 roundtrip or $.50 per mile whichever is greater
